Why I started Fabulously Floridian

Hi Everyone!

Even though I'm new to the whole vast world of blogging, I wanted to share with everyone the making of Fabulously Floridian! You have no idea how much I enjoy each and every aspect of blogging.  It may seem a little cliche, but I feel as if I have found my little “niche”.  Like, ya know, a little activity or hobby that makes someone unique and happy.  No matter what your interests are, there’s that one thing that always seems to bring you a certain rush.  No I’m not talking about a one-too many cups of coffee rush, or a sweets type of rush, but the kind of energy that motivates you.  The kind of energy that almost feels as if you can tackle anything that may come your way.  Even though I still have a lot to learn and improve on down the road, blogging has been the perfect way to combine two things I really enjoy….writing and fashion!

I have always loved writing.  I can distinctly remember this one Christmas when I was probably 7 years old and I got this giant “Camp Rock” notebook. (Funny, I still have that notebook to this day and from time to time will read what I wrote in it. haha).  I kid you not, that notebook became one of my favorite all time gifts.  I used to write countless stories involving things I adored at the time, including the Jonas Brothers….it was 2007 after all, to mysteries, and the list goes on.  Writing has always been a platform of entertainment for me.

Now my other love, fashion.  Fashion is way more than what society views as something “vain”.  Fashion to me means developing your own sense of personal style and has really shaped me to become a more confident individual.  Like that feeling you get when you try on that one dress you’ve been eyeing for a while and you feel as if nothing or nobody can stop you from chasing after what you want.

For a majority of my freshman year and well into my sophomore year of high school, my focus on going to college was to major in fashion and somehow land a job in the industry.  When I began my junior year, I realized maybe it wasn't for me anymore.  I felt as if I had more of an interest in politics and law for a career.   Starting my blog was perfect because even though fashion wasn’t the career path I wanted to follow anymore, blogging let’s me display and express what I love...fashion and writing.

A few months ago, I had a chance to meet for lunch with a friend of my mom’s from high school, Amy Lagae, who shared a lot of insight with me about her career path in the magazine industry.  Amy worked for Vogue….Yes, this is the Vogue, the world renowned fashion magazine.  I was so captivated by all of the stories she shared with me, including a little insight about Anna Wintour, Editor-In-Chief, and Lauren Weisberger, Author of The Devil Wears Prada.  Amy suggested that blogging would be a wonderful way for me to express something I’m passionate about.  That’s it!  That was the little spark that ignited my interest to start my own blog.

I also had inspiration from one of my most admired bloggers, Sarah Vickers from classygirlswearpearls.com.  I emailed Sarah and was so surprised to get a response right back! Everything Amy and Sarah shared with me was so encouraging and made me want to chase after this even more...and so began Fabulously Floridian!

I'm so beyond thrilled to be sharing my posts with everyone.  I hope that I can be the same inspiration to somebody reading my blog like how others have been to me!

Until next time,

Xoxo,

Jillian
